Chapter 15 - Winding Down

Unlike the other girls I’d bonded with so far, Eva had actually prepared herself for the physical realities of what came after a Bond. Rather than have me cum on her like Alice and Cynthia had—though the latter had been so focused on the sex that she’d almost squeezed me into cumming inside her—the Headmistress had swallowed the majority of it. Now that she mentioned it, I did feel basically normal now, even though I’d apparently come to the brink of dying. “You can tell?”

“The Bond goes both ways,” she said. “I imagine you get more information about us than the other way around, but I can sense your general well-being as well as provide you with mana so your body heals faster. It’s a fascinating spell. I would add them to the archives, but I suspect that they would be used against you sooner than later.”

“You think there’s someone within this Academy targeting me?” I asked.

Eva sighed. “I know not whether it is this Academy or any of the others, but it is a simple fact that your very existence is a threat to a great deal of strong mages, myself included. Some, like me, see you as an opportunity.”

“Charming,” I said drily.

“Would you have believed me if I had said that I’m helping you out of the kindness of my own heart?”

“No,” I admitted. “I mean, our motives seem to align, so it’s not a big deal.”

“Of course, the opportunity aspect isn’t the only reason I’m helping you, just like how young Miss Lark isn’t bonded with you because they want to use you. A Bond wouldn’t work if it was purely transactional.”

I noticed she didn’t mention her daughter there, but to be fair, that Bond hadn’t worked. Well, sort of. It had been transactional, and because of that, it had been temporary

I filed that away under “important things I should probably know about my skill.”

“It’s the others that you should be truly worried about,” Eva said. “The ones who see you as a threat. Already, we’ve seen results of this. The demons want you dead enough that they revealed a trump card in order to breach our defenses and assassinate you in your sleep.
